FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQs)

Got a question about the merger of Cedar Centre and Downs View? Send it to us here and we'll do our very best to answer it. We don't have all of the information at the moment, but we'll publish what we do know. Below are some questions that have already come up that Adrian Carver has answered as fully as he can at this point. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you have concerns or would like to get involved with the parent change team.

Kind regards, Gayle Adam (Cedar Centre) and Adrian Carver (Downs View)

THE MOVE TO THE WOODINGDEAN SITE

What facilities will the building extension in Woodingdean have?

  • From the views of SLT from both schools and staff who submitted ideas, the architect is seeking to include all the elements suggested.  Staff on all 4 sites were made aware of the issues which need to be considered via the ***** document.  The building design will include food technology (I have noted the CC request that the food tech room has individual workstations), science & art may be combined as a space with dedicated storage, necessary sensory rooms, withdrawal/quiet rooms, two halls, trampoline room.  There will be classes for maximum capacity of 155 pupils ultimately.

When will the building start or be ready?

  • No plans have yet been shown to me or governors.  The LA submitted a draft plan for ‘pre-application advice’ from the planning department 3 weeks ago to ensure that the extension size would not cause a rejection.  The timescale is 6 weeks max for a response.  If ok I assume we will receive a draft plan to scrutinise & comment on.  The accommodation working group will take feedback from staff.

Will there be enough parking?

  • No parking will be lost with the extension but at this stage I do not know if parking will be added.

ADMISSIONS

Admissions

How will admissions be determined?

  • The process of for children being allocated a place at a special school in the city will remain the same - through the preparation of an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and a decision made with you by the Local Authority on the best place for your child. For more information see the city's Local Offer pages.

Will new pupils be admitted to the Cedar Centre site in September 2018?

  • Yes. Cedar Centre has been commissioned (told by the Local Authority) to admit 68 pupils in September to the Lynchet Close site.

TRANSPORT

What about my child's taxi?
